AC Milan have failed to start their season positively, and Paulo Fonseca must look to the past for inspiration with some important games ahead.

Fonseca is already facing scrutiny, and his position as the head coach could be shortlived if results do not improve soon. With the expectations set for the season, and the Portuguese coach in general, things must get better before they get worse.

The bar, though, is on, or near the floor. Two points from three games is abysmal, luckily, there is a golden chance to save the season already, or perhaps, it is an early chance to kill it off.

Milan welcome Venezia back after the break, and then Liverpool and Inter await.

As Pietro Mazzara suggests in his editorial piece for Milan News, perhaps, the answer for Fonseca lies in the past. Against PSG, when Pioli’s back was against the wall, he changed the Diavolo’s tune to a compact and collected team.

Fonseca wants Milan to dominate, but right now, that is not working. Instead, the answer may be to go back to basics, and make the Rossoneri difficult to beat – which is the opposite of what they are at present.

In the future, Fonseca can revert to trying to dominate, but for now, the answer is not domination but winning.
