Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has revealed the reason for Mathias Jensen’s absence against Arsenal.

The Denmark international missed his first Premier League game of the season with “a minor adductor strain” – and Frank is hopeful that the midfielder will return for Luton Town’s visit to Gtech Community Stadium next weekend.

Mads Roerslev was also unavailable on Saturday. Frank confirmed that the defender is suffering with “a little issue” and should also be in contention for Brentford’s game against the Hatters.

Yehor Yarmoliuk made his first league start in Jensen’s absence and impressed on his full debut.

“The players are ready to step in and fill the role, and they do that because they know the structure and the principles,” said Frank.

“We have a fantastic culture and togetherness. With the injuries we have, against a full-strength Arsenal side who are top of the Premier League, [the performance] was just incredible.”

A late Kai Havertz header consigned Brentford to a cruel defeat against Arsenal, and Frank was keen to highlight another impressive showing from his side.

“There were two chances for both teams; they took one of theirs and we didn’t,” he said.

“It’s tough to take when they score in the last minute of the game, but we made it very difficult for Arsenal.

“It was almost the perfect defensive performance in so many ways against a very, very good offensive team.”

Frank continued: “There are a lot of positives to take from the game. In the moment it is frustrating to take, but we need to focus on the performances.

“This is game 13 and we have had 12 good or very good performances. We just need to keep doing that, keep moving forward and keep believing.”
