Manchester United have made it a priority to strengthen their frontline in the summer, given Rasmus Hojlund’s woeful form this season.
This includes adding creativity up top, with the Dane often complaining about a lack of service. Matheus Cunha of Wolverhampton Wanderers is seen as the perfect addition.
He can play all across the frontline, even as a striker if needed, and this sort of versatility is a huge draw for Ruben Amorim. The Wolves No 10 has 17 goals and six assists this season and has almost single-handedly kept the West Midlands club in the English top-flight.
He was impressed with what he saw from the Brazilian during United’s first game against Wolves, wherein the 25-year-old ran the show, adding a goal and an assist to his name.
The Red Devils are poised to trigger his release clause and even add something on top of it in terms of bonuses to ensure they can pay the amount in installments.
There has been talk of fierce rivals Arsenal and Newcastle trying to hijack the deal, with each of the clubs in a much healthier position in the league while both could offer the Brazilian Champions League football next season.
But as Sky Sports have now revealed, the former Atletico Madrid ace “loves United” and has no qualms about linking up with Amorim at Old Trafford, even if there is no European football on offer next season.
This is exact sort of attitude the Portuguese tactician is targeting in the market and hopefully, INEOS can get the deal over the line as soon as possible.
Interestingly, the outlet has also revealed that Saudi Pro League sides are also looking at Cunha and are prepared to trigger his release clause as well.
“Cunha has given United positive indications that he is interested in joining them from Wolves, Sky Sports News reported in April, despite competition from Premier League clubs.
“One source has told Sky Sports News the 25-year-old “loves United”. Cunha thinks United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and their current Premier League position would not put him off a potential move to Old Trafford.
“Arsenal and Aston Villa are among the clubs that have held exploratory talks about signing the Brazil international this year. Saudi Pro League clubs are also now willing to trigger his £64m release clause.”
It is likely to boil down to the player’s own will at this stage and currently, as things stand, the Brazil international seems eager to play at The Theatre of Dreams.
