Valencia CF lost 7-1 to FC Barcelona on LALIGA EA Sports Matchday 21, at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
The match was an uphill struggle from the outset. Frenkie De Jong, Ferran Torres and Raphinha opened a 3-0 lead before the first quarter of an hour of play had elapsed. Valencia CF tried to overcome this with an initial dangerous approach, but a penalty appeal for a foul on André Almeida was not awarded.
The home team scored to make it 4-0, thanks to Fermín, who beat Mamardashvili in a one-on-one after receiving a ball behind the defence.

After half an hour, the referee seemed to award a penalty in favour of Valencia CF, after the FC Barcelona goalkeeper clearly brought down Hugo Duro, but VAR overturned the decision, due to a foul by Valencia CF at the start of the move.
Just before half-time, FC Barcelona would increase their lead with another goal from Fermín (5-0).
In the 58th minute, Hugo Duro scored a consolation goal with his seventh strike of the season, finishing off a cross by Diego López from the left.
In the final stretch of the match, the referee disallowed another Valencia CF goal for offside and FC Barcelona would score twice more.
The only positives were the debut of Max Aarons and the return, more than ten months out through injury, of Mouctar Diakhaby.
Valencia CF will have their next fixture against RC Celta de Vigo at Mestalla (Sunday, February 2nd, at 4:15 p.m.).
