Real Madrid have been dealing with a depleted defence for far too long now and the prolonged absence of David Alaba has not helped matters.
Alaba has been out for more than a year now and his recovery has been quite slow. However, afters months of waiting, it appears Real Madrid fans may soon get to see David Alaba back in action.
According to MARCA, Alaba is finally set to make his comeback to Valdebebas, where he is expected to train with the group from December 30 onwards.
It must be noted that Real Madrid return to training on December 30, once the holiday breaks are over. Alaba, too, is set to join the group.
The Austrian will be given time to get back his rhythm and fitness. The defender, after all, has been out of action for more than a year.

Real Madrid are not rushing into Alaba’s fitness and his return to the pitch will be gradual, spread over several weeks.
The club are aware of the fact that they cannot afford Alaba to aggravate his injury. The medical team, therefore, is set to adopt a more cautious approach.
This comes against the backdrop of recent reports suggesting that the former Bayern Munich defender could return to the pitch sometime after the Spanish Super Cup.
Alaba’s return could be a boon for Carlo Ancelotti, who has been forced to deploy Aurelien Tchouameni in central defence, thanks to the absence of Eder Militao through injury.
Apart from the quality that he offers on the pitch, Alaba’s leadership and experience could prove to be invaluable for Real Madrid, at a time when the club require some guidance.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the veteran defender goes about his fitness in the coming weeks.
