Mason Greenwood no longer a target for Juventus

Mason Greenwood is no longer a target for Juventus, but Jadon Sancho is, according to a new report.

Both wingers are expected to be sold by Manchester United this summer for different reasons, Greenwood due to the political and ethical difficulties in reintegrating him into the United side after a well-publicised criminal case and Sancho due to having been ostracised by manager Erik ten Hag following a public spat.

Juve first set their sights on Greenwood. They had reportedly agreed personal terms and were expecting to be able to come close to the €35 million asking price after selling some players, potentially Federico Chiesa, who is entering the last year of his contract at the Allianz Stadium.

But whilst that situation rumbled on, the Old Lady became more and more interested in Sancho, ultimately pitting one United star against the other in their quest to provide new manager Thiago Motta with wingers for his famed 4-3-3 system.

Now, according to this morning’s paper edition of Corriere dello Sport, there has been another shift in thinking, with Greenwood no longer in the Bianconeri’s plans.

“Greenwood’s name … has faded from the technical director’s notebook, while that of [Karim] Adeyemi from Borussia [Dortmund] remains,” the outlet reports.

Sancho is still very much wanted by Juve but they are hoping for a loan. “Fifty million [Euros, United’s reported asking price] is too much for Juve,” CdS affirms.

This all will come as a blow to United, who want to get top dollar on both players this summer to fund their own squad rebuild.

Greenwood’s two remaining suitors, Marseille and Lazio, are both offering something in the region of €20 million – just £17 million – a ridiculously low amount for a player of Greenwood’s age and calibre.

The Rome club are willing to offer a 40-50% sell-on clause, but that will come as little consolation to cash-strapped United.

Meanwhile, pre-season training begins for United on Monday with both players expected to report for duty at Carrington. It will hardly be an ideal situation for Ten Hag, either player or their teammates.

With a pre-season friendly a week later and a tour of the States starting the week after that, it will be interesting to see whether either or both players are included pending resolution of these complicated transfers.
