Ismaël Bennacer (27) spent the second half of last season on loan at Olympique de Marseille from AC Milan. Marc Mechenoua understands that, whilst OM opted against triggering the buy option included in the deal, they are now looking to bring the Algeria international back to the club on loan. An offer has even been submitted, the journalist understands.

This loan offer, like the one that saw him join last season, includes a buy option. The Italian club, however, are seeking a permanent transfer for the Algeria international, who played his youth football at Arsenal. Milan’s asking price is reportedly between €10 and €15m.

The 27-year-old has previously featured in France for his hometown club Arles and had a loan spell with Tours before moving to Italy.

His speed, vision, intelligence and composure were a huge asset to Roberto De Zerbi in his first season at the helm as Les Phocéens earned a place in the UEFA Champions League group phase with 65 points, 15 more than the previous domestic campaign.

In 2019, Bennacer, who was born in France, played a significant role in Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, being named the Player of that tournament. He was a part of the Milan side that captured the Serie A crown in 2021-22. His current contract expires in June 2027.

Marseille begin the new Ligue 1 campaign on August 15 when they travel to Roazhon Park for a date with Stade Rennais.
