Mark Robins accepts Manchester United are favourites ahead of FA Cup semi-final

Coventry City manager Mark Robins says Manchester United are favourites ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final but he has urged his side to play positively.

The Championship side has faltered in recent weeks with three points from the last 12, so they may miss out on the play-offs this season.

Coventry fans appear to be happy with the job Robins has done since becoming manager in 2017.

Robins brings a bit of history to this weekend’s fixture after playing an important role in winning the FA Cup for United back in 1990, which was the first trophy of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at the club.

He scored the winning goal in the semi-final replay against Oldham Athletic and, like they say, the rest is history.

Speaking about his side going into the game, Robins said (via BBC Sport): “First and foremost, we’ve got to be right. We’ve lost three of our last four, it’s not brilliant form that’s for sure at this stage of the season.

“People have been talking about, has there been one eye on this game? I doubt it, although you could be forgiven for thinking about the game before it’s played.”

Coventry have only won the FA Cup once in their history in 1987 when they beat Tottenham in the final, while United have won the competition 12 times.

Robins added that United go into the game as clear favourites, saying: “We know they are clearly favourites to win this game by a million miles, they are expected to win, it’s as simple as that.

“We know what we are likely to encounter but we’ve got to play a part in the game in as positive way as we possibly can do.”
