Much has been said about Marcus Rashford in recent weeks, months and even years at this point, but he has answered his critics in the best fashion possible in the last few days.

He first scored at Southampton before giving Manchester United the lead on Tuesday against Barnsley in the third round of the EFL Cup.

Perhaps it was a surprise to see the 26-year-old in the United lineup tonight given he has started every game this season so far, but maybe Erik ten Hag felt he wanted to give the forward an instant opportunity to build on his weekend goal.

It took him just 16 minutes to do so, and what a great goal it was.

United broke, quickly getting the ball to Alejandro Garnacho, who then found his fellow wideman with a raking diagonal ball. From here, it was all about Rashford, who jinked past two defenders before smashing the ball past Barnsley keeper Gaga Slonina.

Rashford had not scored in 12 games prior to his strike against Saints, and his last run of back-to-back goals came back in early March.

Is this the start of a resurgence?
