Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is reportedly set to tell club bosses that he does not wish to travel with the team for pre-season as he angles for an exit.
Rashford is expected to leave United this summer, having fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim. The pair’s relationship became broken shortly after Amorim’s appointment was brought in as Erik ten Hag’s replacement. This prompted United to loan out Rashford to Aston Villa in January.
Despite enjoying an uptick in form at Villa, the Birmingham outfit appear unlikely to make Rashford’s stay a permanent one, and as such, he is available on the market.
The England international is believed to be eyeing a dream switch to Barcelona but that’s looking difficult, with the Catalan giants working on a deal to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club.
There were suggestions Newcastle were contemplating a swoop for Rashford on an initial loan basis but a recent report covered by The Peoples Person poured cold water on these claims.
Now, according to the Daily Star, Rashford “wants to miss” United’s summer tour of America in favour of finding himself a new club.
The newspaper reveals, “Rashford is desperate to avoid going if he has not secured an exit from Old Trafford, and will tell club bosses he wants to remain in England to resolve his future.”
“It’s understood Amorim would not have a problem with Rashford not being part of the group.”
After the ongoing summer break, United’s pre-season preparations ahead of the 2025.26 season will commence with a July friendly against old rivals Leeds United in Sweden. This game will be played on July 19 at the Strawberry Arena.
A week later, the Red Devils will make their way to America to participate in the Premier League Summer Series.
United are one of four teams involved in the tournament, alongside the likes of Everton, Bournemouth and West Ham. First up, Amorim’s men take on West Ham in New Jersey on July 26, followed by a clash with Bournemouth in Chicago on July 30, before wrapping up with a showdown against Everton in Atlanta on August 3.
United will then return to Old Trafford to host Fiorentina in their final pre-season fixture, the Snapdragon Cup, on August 9.
