The Cottagers saw their unbeaten run across all competitions come to an end in the London derby

Marco Silva insisted Fulham would be even higher in the Premier League table if they had not dropped costly points from games they dominated.

The Fulham manager felt his side were the better side at the London Stadium on Tuesday night, but they fell to a 3-2 defeat to West Ham in a London derby that brought new Hammers boss Graham Potter his first win.

Fulham are ninth in the Premier League, just seven points off fourth-place Chelsea.

“Definitely, it is a really disappointing night for us,” he said. “It’s been a very good season so far for us, but performance-wise we could be in a [higher] position. Tonight is another example of it.

“Games when we are so dominant we should win. It’s completely our fault.”

West Ham’s first and third goals on Tuesday night came from poor errors by Andreas Pereira and Bernd Leno, and Silva was in no doubt that these mistakes had been the main factor to why his team lost.

“It’s clearly our fault the way we lost the game. We were punished by our own mistakes. The way we started the game, we were so dominant until conceding the first goal.

“It is clear the result didn’t reflect what both teams did on the pitch. The team that created more didn’t win the game. We cannot give West Ham two goals. We had chances, but we didn’t create enough.”
