Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Marco Asensio has agreed personal terms and a three-year contract to join Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Villa want the three-time Champions League winner back at Villa Park after his impressive loan spell during the second half of last term, and the feeling is mutual.

Villans manager Unai Emery dubbed Asensio ‘fantastic’ last term and would love a reunion as he looks to win the Europa League this season.

The Midlands club are on the verge of losing Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United, and they want to quickly wrap up a deal for the PSG ahead of their Premier League opener against the Magpies on Saturday.

Around €20 million could be enough for Villa to sign the 29-year-old as he is in the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes club.

They are expected to table their first official bid for Asensio this week, and things could speed up if the French club are satisfied with the offer as the Spaniard is not in their plans going forward.

The former Real Madrid star ended his loan spell with eight goals and one assist in 21 appearances for Villa, and they could do with his quality across all competitions in the new season.

Losing Ramsey is a big blow, but recruiting Asensio will soften its effect and the Villans will look to make more quality recruitment before the end of the summer transfer window.

They have not been very active in the market after UEFA fined them earlier this summer for breaching their financial rules.

Villa need to sell players before they can spend big if they want to remain compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
