Spanish journalist Raúl Varela (Marca) revealed that Carlo Ancelotti told Real Madrid to sign Sandro Tonali to replace Toni Kroos this season.
The German midfielder retired at the end of the 2024-25 season, and Real Madrid failed to bring in an appropriate replacement for the 2014 World Cup winner.
Spanish journalist Raúl Varela said during a Marca Radio show that Ancelotti had identified his compatriot Tonali as one of the ideal replacements for Kroos this season.

According to Varela, the other option suggested by Ancelotti was Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
Tonali returned from a betting ban this season and has played a key role at Newcastle in 2024-25, helping the Magpies to win the EFL Cup in March.
The former Milan midfielder has already been linked with a move to Juventus this summer, but Newcastle are expected to demand at least €70m/80m if they decide to sell the player.
Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid in the coming weeks and is likely to be appointed as the new Brazil head coach.
