Manchester United Women bring the curtain down on their season today as they host Chelsea in a crucial game for the Blues in the Women’s Super League.

Despite United not being in contention for the league title it is still set to be a day to remember for Marc Skinner’s team who will be showing off silverware at Old Trafford.

After thumping Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup final last weekend, the girls will be parading the trophy around the Theatre of Dreams after today’s game.

The 4-0 win made history at Wembley, with the impressive performance securing the first ever FA Cup success for the Women’s team.

Ella Toone opened the scoring with a wonderful 25 yard strike before Rachel Williams planted a header home in the second half and Lucia Garcia grabbed a brace to rubber stamp United’s dominance on the day.

The FA Cup trophy won’t be the only silverware on display this afternoon with the Women’s Player of the Year, Goal of the Season and Player’s Player of the Year award winners all set to be celebrated at pitchside ahead of kick-off.

United will be desperate to sign off a difficult league season with a victory and in doing so play a huge role in the destination of the title.

Chelsea sit top of the Super League table on goal difference and know they are highly likely to need three points to secure their fifth consecutive title, ahead of Manchester City.

United need the points to stand any chance of finishing above arch rivals Liverpool, who occupy fourth place.

It’s been a tough campaign for Marc Skinner, who lost a few key players last summer and struggled to hit the heights of last season’s second place finish.

However, creating history with the FA Cup and a recent extension to his contract means Skinner will lead the Women’s team into next season with renewed confidence.

30,000 fans are expected to join the celebrations at Old Trafford today with tickets available until the 3pm kick off.
