Ruben Amorim is under more pressure than ever as he and Manchester United return to Old Trafford today, hosting newly-promtoed Burnley. They badly need a win after being humiliated in the Carabao Cup by Grimsby last time out. They were trailing the League Two outfit by two at half-time, but fought back to force penalties, where they were knocked out after Bryan Mbeumo missed his second spot-kick.
Amorim lambasted his players in his post-match media duties and doubled down as he previewed today’s tie, saying that sometimes he hates his own players. Should United fail to win today, he could be set for some awkward conversations with club leadership during the international break.
Burnley come into the tie on a run of wins after beating Derby in the Carabao Cup last time out and downing Sunderland last weekend. Scott Parker is expected to hand debuts to some of his new signings today as he looks to extend that run. It is early doors yet, but Burnley sit five places ahead of United in the Premier League table.

United have made a slow start to the season, so of course the rumour mill is spinning.
Will Amorim be sacked? If so, when? How patient will Jim Ratcliffe be? Who can say...
Well, Amorim himself has hinted that could be the case: "Something has to change, and you're not going to change 22 players again."
Reports have emerged, though, that a shortlist of replacements has already been drawn up.
Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola are both of interest to the Red Devils.

Ruben Amorim did not seem to have cheered up much when it came time for him to preview this afternoon’s match.
“Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years,” the United manager said.
“Sometimes I don’t want to be with my players. I need to improve on that.
"I know that when I speak these things, to be really honest with you guys, every time that we have - or have in the future - a defeat like [vs Grimsby], I am going to be like that.
“I am going to say that sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I want to defend my players.
“This is my way of doing things and I'm going to be like that.
“I felt that at that moment I was so frustrated and annoyed.
“I know, again, that you have a lot of experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media, to be more constant, to be more calm. I'm not going to be like that."

It will come as a surprise to few that Alejandro Garnacho is not in the squad today, as has been the case in every competitive match United have played since the Europa League final.
He is instead at Stamford Bridge watching Chelsea vs Fulham ahead of completing a transfer to the Blues.

Armando Broja’s wait for a Burnley debut goes on. He fails to make the matchday squad again.
Oliver Sonne, scorer of a 91st-minute Carabao Cup winner against Derby in midweek, drops to the bench, as does fellow goalscorer Aaron Ramsey.
Josh Cullen and Jaidon Anthony, the scorers in last week’s victory of Sunderland, both start and will hope to inflict the same misery on United today.

Ruben Amorim has made seven changes from the squad which started against Grimsby.
Altay Bayindir comes back in to replace Andre Onana, who will be defended by a new-look back three. De Ligt, Yoro, and Shaw start in place of Heaven, Maguire, and Fredricson.
Amad Diallo slots into Dorgu’s vacant spot at left wing back, while his free space in the front three is taken by Bryan Mbeumo.
After an ignominious debut, Benjamin Sesko drops to the bench.

Ruben Amorim had some choice words for his team after that loss to Grimsby.
"It was really clear to everybody what happened today," the Portuguese said.
"With all due respect, when you lose to a fourth-division side, it's not the goalkeeper, it's everything. It's the environment. It's going to be massive, every detail. My players spoke for me, really loud.”
"In the end, it doesn't matter if we recover or not, it's the signs the team gave during the game, the beginning of the game.
“I think the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch. The best players lose because one team can win against any group of players, and I think the team and the players spoke really loud today, so that's it. We lost, the best team won.
“I think it's really clear what they spoke, so let's move on from this day and I think it was clear for everybody what happened today."
