Ruben Amorim is under pressure as Manchester United kick off their 2025/26 season at home to Arsenal on Sunday. After a calamitous 15th-place finish last term, the manager has been backed with a significant attacking overhaul to ignite improvement.
The blockbuster clash with the title-chasing Gunners provides an immediate test of United’s new-look forward line and their ambitions for the season ahead.
Ruben Amorim is expected to deploy his favoured 3-4-3 formation and could hand competitive starts to a trio of new attacking signings. Benjamin Šeško is set to lead the line as the central striker, with his aerial presence offering a new focal point.
He will likely be flanked by Bryan Mbeumo, whose Premier League experience makes him a strong candidate to start, and Matheus Cunha in a fluid attacking role. Mason Mount and the returning Joshua Zirkzee will also compete for the starting XI.
However, the defence remains a concern. The continued absence of Lisandro Martínez is a significant blow, depriving the team of their best ball-playing defender. In his place, Harry Maguire or Luke Shaw could deputise in the left-sided defensive role.
Manchester United predicted XI: Onana; Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Diallo, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha Šeško,.
The Premier League fixture takes place at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17th August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 4:30pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League in the UK. Coverage begins at 4pm BST, and subscribers can also stream the action via the Sky Go app.
