Manchester United have reportedly submitted a second and improved offer to Everton for their prized defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

Last month, United lodged an opening bid for Branthwaite worth £35million with an additional £8million in add-ons that would be triggered if the defender and the club achieved certain milestones.

Everton swiftly rejected the proposal, which they considered derisory. It was stated that the Toffees want a significantly higher fee for Branthwaite, to the tune of £70 million.

It’s believed that the Merseyside club consider the England international to be in the same price bracket as the likes of Josko Gvardiol, Harry Maguire and Wesley Fofana, all of whom moved for fees in excess of £75 million within the past five years.

Branthwaite played a key role during the 2023/24 season as Everton avoided relegation despite suffering instances of points deduction as a result of breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

During the 35 top-flight matches he played, the 22-year-old helped his side keep 12 clean sheets. He also found the back of the net on three occasions.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Branthwaite was growing agitated over the lack of progress on a deal to join. Personal terms have already been agreed between the player and the Red Devils.

Earlier on Monday, it emerged that INEOS were set to hold a big transfer meeting, with Branthwaite one of the main topics on the agenda.

According to Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail, it seems that one of the resolutions of the meeting was to step up the club’s pursuit of Branthwaite.

Wheeler has revealed on X (formerly Twitter), “Man Utd submit improved offer of £45m plus £5m for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.”

This information has been corroborated by Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

“Manchester United have sent new bid to Everton for Jarred Branthwaite tonight: £45m fixed fee plus £5m add-ons.”

“The proposal is formal and official.”

“Everton insist on £65/70m price for Branthwaite, no deal again at this stage.”

Meanwhile, United are also trying to bring in Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and negotiations remain ongoing with the Bavarian outfit in an attempt to strike an agreement over the transfer fee.
