Manchester United are trying to raid Wolverhampton Wanderers for a second time this summer.
United kick-started their summer transfer business by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The Midlands outfit wanted to keep hold of Cunha, who was comfortably their best player last term, scoring 15 goals and registering six assists in the Premier League.
However, Cunha was keen to move to United. The Red Devils activated a release clause worth £62.5m in the Brazilian’s contract to bring him to Old Trafford.
Now, the Mancunians are pushing to get the deal over the line for another Wolves talent, this time with a view to strengthening their youth setup.
According to Academy Scoop, an excellent source for youth football, United have “reached an agreement” to sign highly-rated forward Ben Lyne.
Academy Scoop adds that several Premier League clubs showed interest in Lyne.
The Wolves under-15 forward is capable of playing as a left winger and through the middle.
Under Ineos, signing the best up-and-coming talents has been central to the club’s recruitment plans.
Earlier this summer, United completed the signing of young forward Enzo Kana-Biyik. To ensure the Frenchman’s development is not hampered, United sent him on loan to Swiss Super League side, Lausanne-Sport.
Meanwhile, Ineos-owned OGC Nice have shown interest in signing Chido Obi on a season-long loan. The Dane joined United’s academy from Arsenal last summer.
Interestingly, United’s academy has helped the club’s hierarchy raise funds for their summer transfer business.
United have pocketed around £15m from the transfers of Álvaro Carreras, Anthony Elanga, and Maxi Oyedele. The trio graduated from the club’s famed academy but failed to establish themselves at Old Trafford.
Further, the Mancunians are advancing in talks with Chelsea over a deal for academy product Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine is valued at £50m. His sale could help United sign an elite midfielder for Ruben Amorim this summer.
