Manchester United are reportedly planning a bid for Blackburn Rovers prospect Igor Tyjon.

United seem to be keen on adopting a completely different approach from their previous one of signing already-established players at the peak of their powers.

The club appears to be now leaning more towards a model of securing the services of young players with the ability and potential to become world-class if well nurtured.

It’s believed that this is a policy Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are keen to implement at Old Trafford – the evidence of which can already be seen in United’s links to youngsters like Michael Olise (Crystal Palace) and Desire Doue (Stade Rennais).

Writing on his Patreon, The Sun reporter Alan Nixon reports that the Red Devils retain an interest in 16-year-old Blackburn Rovers wonderkid Igor Tyjon.

Rovers boast a very impressive academy, that has produced several success stories, the most recent one of which was Adam Wharton. Wharton joined Premier League side Palace earlier this year in an £18m deal and has since taken to the top flight like a duck to water.

He has impressed with his incredible technical displays, which earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s 33-man provisional squad ahead of England’s participation in Euro 2024.

Tyjon seems like the next big talent set to come out of Ewood Park.

United are not the only party chasing him. Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion are also keeping tabs on Tyjon and could swoop in for him.

Amidst all this, it’s believed that the England youth international remains undecided about his future as he could still elect to stay with Rovers and make an effort to break into the first team.

There is certainly a path for him to achieve this as seen in the cases of Wharton, Ashley Phillips and Callum Wright – all players that have come through the ranks at the Championship club.

Tyjon primarily plays as an attacking midfielder but can also be deployed in the striker and winger roles.

He’s been a regular presence for his side at the U18 level and while he’s yet to make an appearance for the senior team, he has already made the bench on two occasions.

Rovers acquired him from Rochdale last year when they were relegated to the National League.
