Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year contract.
Cunha enjoyed a standout season with Wolves in 2024–25, netting 15 Premier League goals, including a screamer directly from a corner kick against United in a 2-0 victory on Boxing Day.
He bagged 17 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions, earning the club’s Players’ Player of the Season award.
The Brazilian is primarily a centre-forward but also possesses the versatility to play as a second striker or winger.
Cunha had shown a desire to join United regardless of their lack of European football for next season, and it is no surprise the Red Devils opted to activate his £62.5 million release clause.
“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player,” the 26-year-old told United’s official website on the completion of his move to Old Trafford.
“Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on television at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team, and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt.
“I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality. I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead.”
Cunha is United’s first acquisition of the summer, although more arrivals are imminent. After their initial bid for Bryan Mbeumo was rejected, United are expected to return with an improved offer.
Having missed out on landing Liam Delap earlier in the window, United are also keen on signing Viktor Gyokeres, who is also a target for Arsenal.
