Manchester United have completed the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal for an initial €76.5 million, plus €8.5 million in performance-related bonuses.
Sesko, who scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig since his transfer from sister club RB Salzburg in 2023, chose Manchester United despite strong interest from Newcastle United, turning down the chance to play Champions League football immediately.
“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future,” he told United’s official website.
“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.
“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created.
“It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.”
Sesko’s arrival adds to an already potent array of options up front that includes recent signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as United seek to fix a dysfunctional attacking unit which saw them score just 44 league goals en route to a 15th-place finish during the 2024/25 season.
The Red Devils are also in the market for a new midfielder before the transfer window shuts and have been strongly linked with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba.
United will aim to sign off on preseason with a win in their final warm-up fixture against Fiorentina later today, after which they will take on Arsenal in a heavyweight meeting next Sunday.
