This season has confirmed that Rodri is by far and away Manchester City’s most important player. His loss to an ACL injury has almost crippled City’s season. Pep Guardiola’s side hasn’t been able to cover the loss of Rodri for the majority of this season. Since he went down with injury against Arsenal in September any progress on Rodri’s recovery has been positive news. We saw last week that City’s most important player has begun stepping up his training. Now Pep Guardiola has provided a new update on when Rodri may return, and it’s good news for Manchester City.
Speaking during the embargoed section of his post-game press conference after his team’s 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle, Pep Guardiola told the media that Rodri could return before the end of this season. Speaking about Rodri’s progress Guardiola told the media: “Rodri’s been out five or six months after the international break, but one step at a time. We don’t have to make stupid decisions. It’s good, but he’s not so close to coming back. He’s touching the ball and back in the locker room. He feels more confident and happier. I could not expect before that before the end of the season in the Premier League and maybe he is going to help us.”
Pep Guardiola’s update on Rodri’s recovery is good news for Manchester City. The hope is that Rodri could aid City’s chase to secure Champions League qualification at the backend of this season. But more important than that is that Rodri returns fit and completely over the ACL injury he sustained. While there is hope that he could return this season it is more important that he is 100% fit rather than playing a cameo role this season.
