Manchester City take on Crystal Palace today at Wembley in the FA Cup final. Today’s match represents the only chance for Pep Guardiola’s side to claim silverware from a disappointing 24/25 season. They’ll face a quality Crystal Palace outfit, who will be desperate for victory today. Oliver Glasner’s side is a dangerous proposition, and that was on display in Manchester City’s 5-2 win over Palace at the Etihad last month. They dominated the opening half-hour of that game before a Kevin De Bruyne-inspired comeback saw Manchester City pick up all three points.
Here is the latest Manchester City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven ahead of today’s match.
Oscar Bobb, Nathan Ake, John Stones and Rodri were all unavailable for Manchester City’s nil-all draw with Southampton last weekend. Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that there were no fresh injury concerns for his team ahead of today’s match. It remains to be seen if any of that quartet will feature in the Manchester City squad today. They have all trained this week, although John Stones availability appears unknown for today’s match.
Ederson: I can’t see Stefan Ortega starting today, so I’m expecting to see Ederson start in goal.
Matheus Nunes: It’s a choice between Nunes or Rico Lewis for the right-back role, as I can’t see Manuel Akanji starting today. I’ll give the nod to Nunes due to the width he adds to Manchester City’s play.
Ruben Dias: The leadership Dias provides will be crucial at Wembley today.
Josko Gvardiol: I expect Gvardiol to slot back in at centre-back today. He has formed a quality centre-back partnership with Ruben Dias, and that should be City’s pairing at the back today.
Nico O’Reilly: O’Reilly has been key to City’s FA Cup run. He deserves to start today at left-back. The hope is that he does on the big stage.
Mateo Kovacic: Kovacic has almost become an automatic selection in Manchester City’s midfield. I expect him to start today.
Bernardo Silva: I expect Pep Guardiola to go in with what he trusts today, and that will likely see Bernardo Silva start.
Ilkay Gundogan: As with Bernardo Silva, I expect Gundogan to start in midfield.
Kevin De Bruyne: Today could be the perfect setting for a vintage De Bruyne performance. His teammates appear determined to send him off in style so I’m expecting him to start today.
Omar Marmoush: Wembley and the FA Cup final could be the ideal setting for Omar Marmoush to thrive. I expect him to start with Erling Haaland today.
Erling Haaland: I cannot see Haaland being on the bench today. He should start and hopefully he has a big game against Crystal Palace.
