Manchester City have added Juventus’ Michele di Gregorio to their list of potential signings for the summer as Ederson makes a decision on his future at the Etihad Stadium, as per a new report.
Ederson sought a move to Saudi Arabia last summer but it emerged that no suitor club was able to meet Manchester City’s £50 million valuation of the Brazilian, who has endured a mixed bag season in the north-west.
Often taken out of the side for Stefan Ortega Moreno by manager Pep Guardiola this season, Ederson is believed to be keen on a new challenge after a successful eight-year stint in England, where he has won six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League and a plethora of domestic title since joining from Benfica in 2017.
Guardiola has maintained his faith in Ederson and has publicly hailed the 31-year-old as an indispensable piece of his Manchester City squad, but there remains huge doubt over the goalkeeper’s future as he enters the final 12 months of his contract this summer.
Ortega Moreno cast doubts on his own future whilst on international duty with Germany in March, refusing to guarantee he would be staying at Manchester City into the 2025-26 campaign after a series of high-profile errors when filling in for Ederson this season.
Pep Guardiola is eyeing four to five first-team acquisitions in the summer and incoming director of football Hugo Viana is set to back the Catalan manager heavily in the transfer market to rebuild and challenge on all fronts next term – after a sub-standard 2024-25 season for the 2023 treble winners.
Calciomercato are reporting that Manchester City are ‘testing the waters’ with Juventus over a potential deal for 27-year-old goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Premier League allowing City to make and register new signings between June 1-10 before they jet off to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, Juventus intend to keep hold of the Italian shotstopper and consider di Gregorio as an integral part of their plans for the years to come, which could force Manchester City to consider alternatives and broaden their search for reinforcements in goal, as relayed by Sport Witness.
Manchester City intend to make serious moves in the transfer window after a few years of lucrative sales and after spending upwards of £180 million on the quartet of Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez – more incomings are in the offing.
Juventus have also seen Manchester City express their interest in full-back Andrea Cambiaso, whom the Blues tried to sign in January and have identified as potent addition to their defensive ranks to replace Kyle Walker, who will leave the club when he returns from his loan spell at AC Milan.
