Premier League champions Manchester City have now identified their latest emerging talent from within the European game to bring to the City Football Academy.
Those focussing on ensuring the future potential stars at the Etihad Campus have been extremely busy in recent months, taking on scouting missions across all corners of the globe and attempting to pitch their development path to young starlets.
Among the names to have bought into the Manchester City and wider City Football Group project over the last 12 months include St Patrick’s Athletic and Republic of Ireland youth international striker, Michael Noonan – who will join the club when he turns 18-years-old.
Argentina’s rising gem Claudio Echeverri will also join the club in the new year, having originally been earmarked for a move to Girona prior to UEFA regulations preventing multi-club ownership transfers when competing in the same competition.
But the latest search for exciting prospects has led Manchester City towards the Portuguese game, and the Sporting CP academy that continues to impress talent spotters from across the European continent in particular.
According to new information revealed by Football Insider, Manchester City have now set their sights on the potential signing of Sporting CP winger, Geovany Quenda (17).
Originally born in Guinea-Bissau, Quenda moved to Portugal as a child before starting his football career and pathway with Damaiense’s under-10s in the 2016/17 season, attracting interest from Benfica.
Two seasons would then follow in the Benfica youth ranks, before deciding to make the switch to rivals Sporting CP at the age of 13-years-old, particularly after his former club failed to provide him with a room at their Campus as originally promised.
His rapid rise at Sporting has most recently resulted in a long-term professional contract extension until the summer of 2027, in turn increasing his buyout clause from €45 million to €100 million.
The teenager has already made his UEFA Champions League debut and scored his first league goal for the club in a 3–0 win over Famalicão, becoming the youngest to score a league goal for Sporting surpassing graduates Simão Sabrosa and Cristiano Ronaldo.
