Those within Manchester City are targeting a resolution to Pep Guardiola’s doubtful future before the end of October, according to new reports.

The Catalan coach is currently in the final year of his Manchester City contract, and the club retain an intention to extend his stay into a tenth year at the Etihad Stadium, in what would be a fitting landmark for such a legendary servant to the organisation’s history.

Uncertainty over Guardiola’s future has also brought about rumours of interest in his services from the side of national team football, and particularly an admiration from the Football Association over the newly-taken England role.

With Thomas Tuchel having agreed to an 18-month contract earlier this week, Pep Guardiola is now left with a clearer space to weigh up his options and decide whether a prolonged stay at Manchester City is the best line of direction at this particular juncture in his career.

From the side of the Premier League champions, they have now seemingly set out a clear date by which time they would like clarity on Guardiola’s intentions, in order to plan for the immediate future.

According to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, the Premier League champions want to put to bed the speculation on manager Pep Guardiola before the end of the month.

Links to the now-taken England job are said to be ‘beyond their control’, but Manchester City have no desire for such conversations to unsettle the first-team squad, and the wider organisation.

For now, Manchester City can only maintain a watching brief on some of their most-admired potential successors to Pep Guardiola for the future, with a number of emerging candidates currently operating across Europe.

One clear link comes via the club’s incoming Director of Football, with Hugo Viana joining the club in 2025 to take the position left by Txiki Begiristain at the end of the ongoing season. As such, it would only be natural to presume that 39-year-old Ruben Amorim would be a target.

There is also admiration in the achievements and style implemented by Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso during his time with the German club, having put together a staggering run of form last campaign en route to a Bundesliga title triumph ahead of Bayern Munich.
