Norwich and Manchester City have finalised an agreement for the permanent transfer of Jacob Wright to Carrow Road, it has been confirmed.

The deal comes after all parties had agreed for the midfielder to head on loan to the Championship club for the second-half of the most recent season, in which the player would go on to impress those at Norwich.

Across his 15 appearances for the Canaries, all of which came at the tail-end of the Championship campaign, Wright managed to record four assists from his role as a defensive midfielder.

Speaking during an interview in early April, the City Football Academy star told a local newspaper on whether he would like to extend his stay with the club, “100 per cent.

“I’m really starting to build something nice, enjoying it, a good family club. I’m really enjoying the way they play. Hopefully, we get better results next season if I stay. I’d definitely like to.”

Now, in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, Manchester City confirmed the transfer of Jacob Wright to Norwich in a permanent deal, following on from the short-term loan agreed between the two clubs back in January.

“I’m really excited, this is what I wanted when I moved here,” the City Academy graduate told Norwich’s official club website.

“The last couple of months that I’ve spent here have cemented my feelings towards the club,” Wright added. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here and hopefully that journey can now continue.”

Offering his own take on the deal, Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper said, “Jacob has been fantastic since joining us back in January, and his impact and performances made this an easy decision for us to make.

“He’s established himself as a key member of our group already, and his potential is huge. Not only is he very talented, he has big leadership qualities and we’re all excited to continue working with him to help achieve his potential and support us in striving towards our goals.”

According to the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski, Wright joins the Canaries for an initial £2.3 million, potentially rising to £3 million, with sell-on and buy-back clauses also included in the agreement between the clubs.

The sale of Wright will no doubt mark the start of several Academy exits over the course of the summer months, while Manchester City’s involvement in the player’s future marks as a sign towards the high-regard in which the midfielder is held at the Etihad Stadium.

Among the other names to face a somewhat uncertain future from the club’s Academy system are striker Divin Mubama, attacking midfielder Divine Mukasa, and central defensive star Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

The latter enjoyed a run in Manchester City’s first-team before returning into the Academy set-up following the turn of the year, going on to claim the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award for his stellar work at Under-21 level en route to the division title.
