Pep Guardiola has named and confirmed his 27-man squad list for Manchester City’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign in the United States.
Following the conclusion of a newly-introduced summer transfer window lasting just 10 days, Guardiola and his squad are due to jet off to the United States and their training base in Florida ahead of the expanded edition of the Club World Cup.
Manchester City come into the tournament as the reigning champions, having won the last edition of the competition in light of their UEFA Champions League success in 2023, defeating Urawa Reds and Fluminense in Saudi Arabia to lift the world title.
With the competition now expanded, Manchester City will embark on a three-game group stage with opposition from Morocco in Wydad AC, the United Arab Emirates in Al Ain, and concluding with a clash against an Italian test from Juventus.
Before then, Hugo Viana and officials within the Etihad Stadium have worked to strengthen Guardiola’s roster ahead of the new 2025/26 season, but have managed to conclude the large majority of their work in time for the tournament Stateside.
As such, fans are eagerly anticipating their first glimpse of new left-sided full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, central midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, and advanced playmaker Rayan Cherki, complimented by a new third choice goalkeeper in Marcus Bettinelli.
Before then, Manchester City have confirmed a 27-man squad list for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, with the majority of the group travelling together from Manchester Airport on Thursday afternoon to Fort Lauderdale, Florida!
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Ortega Moreno, Bettinelli
Defenders: Dias, Stones, Ake, Ait-Nouri, Reis, Gvardiol, Akanji, Khusanov, Lewis
Midfielders: Reijnders, Doku, Nico, Rodri, Gundogan, Bernardo, Savinho, Nunes, Cherki, Echeverri, Foden, Bobb, O’Reilly
Forwards: Marmoush, Haaland
Among the notable absentees for Manchester City at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is Jack Grealish, who is understood to have been left out of the roster with a view towards securing him an exit from the Etihad Stadium.
There is a belief from the side of the player and the club that now is the right time to part ways after a difficult two seasons off the back of a stellar showing en route to a continental Treble in 2023, with City open to the idea of either a permanent or temporary departure.
For now, it remains to be seen what opportunities could present themselves for Grealish in the coming weeks, with the England international keen to secure the necessary game time next season to catch the eye of Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
James McAtee will also play no part in the tournament this summer after a mutual agreement involving all parties enabled the midfielder to join England’s Under-21 side for the European Championships in Slovakia, where he will be captaining the squad.
Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker have also been excluded from the squad after being told they have no future at Manchester City. Phillips suffered relegation in his recent season on loan at Ipswich Town and Walker joined AC Milan on a six-month loan in January after a horror run of form for Manchester City as club captain in the fall of 2024 that saw him lose his starting spot.
