With Julian Alvarez on the verge of completing his move to Atletico Madrid, attention is now shifting to who Manchester City may target to replace the World Cup winner. Replacing such an important player will be no easy task for the world champions. One player who Manchester City is reportedly interested in is Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto. But would the Portuguese international fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad? That doesn’t appear to be a clear-cut move on closer inspection.

James Ducker has reported for the Telegraph that Pedro Neto is one player that Manchester City have had an interest in. Ducker doesn’t report further just how interested City are in the Portuguese international.

Pedro Neto is a quality player when fit but he doesn’t appear to fit into Manchester City’s squad.

Pedro Neto was one of Wolves best players last season. Although injuries did hamper Neto at times last season. In 24 appearances he scored three goals and added 11 assists for Gary O’Neill’s side. His technical ability, creativity, dribbling and pace were the standout attributes of Neto’s play last season. At his best, he has the potential to be one of the most dynamic wingers in the Premier League. But that’s where the issue appears to lie in regards to any potential Manchester City move for Neto.

Pep Guardiola’s squad is littered with quality wingers. Currently, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Oscar Bobb, Savinho, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva can all play on the wing for Pep Guardiola’s side. Each player is a quality winger in their own right. Based on that Manchester City does not appear in need of another player who can operate in wide areas. That fact alone may rule Pedro Neto out as an option for Manchester City to replace the soon-to-be departed Julian Alvarez.

There is one other factor that does make Pedro Neto an appealing signing for City. The Portuguese international is a versatile player who can play in a variety of roles. As per transfermarkt.com, Neto played on a wing and through the middle for Gary O’Neill’s side. But is that enough to convince City to move for the Wolves winger? That remains to be seen.

There is no doubt going to be a host of players linked to Manchester City during the remainder of the transfer window. Pedro Neto is one of those players. There is a case both for and against the world champions moving for the Portuguese international. Only time will tell if the City hierarchy will move for one of the Premier League’s most dynamic wingers.
