In a recent post on X, journalist Sacha Tavolieri revealed that Manchester City are in the mix to land Red Bull Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons. It has been claimed that the Mancunian giants have identified the Dutch playmaker as a replacement for Savio this summer.

Simons’ Impressive Season In The Bundesliga

The 22-year-old was a reliable performer for the German club in the previous campaign when he produced a run of eye-catching displays for them in the Bundesliga. Simons banged in 11 goals and picked up eight assists in 33 matches for RB Leipzig last season across multiple competitions.

The Dutch sensation was a good contributor in the final third as he averaged 2.09 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 46% of his attempts on target. Simons was even tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates after he completed 78.6% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via fbref.com).

Simons is under contract at the German club until the summer of 2027. Hence, Man City would have to make a big offer if they want to lure him to the Etihad Stadium this off-season.

Is Simons A Good Option For Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola?

Simons can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to create a few meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third. He can make some driving runs with the ball in the opponent’s half.

The Dutch talent can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team in the final third. He mainly plays in the number ten position but can also serve as a wide player on either flank if needed.

Simons would bring more firepower to Man City head coach Pep Guardiola‘s attack. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium this season. However, only time will tell whether Simons can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.

At 22, Simons has got the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. All in all, he would be an excellent option for Man City to consider in this summer transfer window as long as they can get him for a fair price.
