Premier League champions Manchester City have moved quickly to secure the talents of midfielder Han Willhoft-King following his exit from Tottenham Hotspur.

Willhoft-King first joined Tottenham’s academy system at the age of six, before successfully progressing through the Premier League side’s youth squads and at one stage being named by The Guardian as the best player in his age-group at the club in September 2022.

However, in a staggering step for the North London club, and perhaps an insight into the player’s drive to succeed at senior level in future, the teenager turned down a contract offer and left the club at the end of the 2023/24 season.

That move sparked widespread interest from across the English game to win his signature to develop him through the next steps of the game, and the latest information has revealed that the Premier League champions may have been the club to do that.

According to the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have now agreed a deal to sign highly-rated midfielder Han Willhoft-King for their Under-19 squad in the forthcoming squad.

The 18-year-old is explained to have left North London giants Tottenham Hotspur ‘a few weeks ago’ and will now join the Etihad Stadium club on an initial two-year contract, with various medical tests now pending.

Manchester City are overseeing a number of changes within their Academy system this summer, with several of their own players agreeing to moves away from the City Football Academy to take up pathways with other clubs.

Simultaneously, there are also changes being made in the coaching structure at the Etihad Stadium, with reports from Germany indicating that Oliver Reiß will become the new head coach of Manchester City under-18s.

The decision will see the 41 year-old leave Hertha BSC after 17 years at the German club, and he could have become an assistant coach at RSC Anderlecht and Hertha, but ‘consciously chose’ the opportunity in England with Manchester City.
