Denmark youth international striker Chido Obi-Martin started his first game for Manchester United under-18s today after officially joining the Red Devils academy earlier this month, and he has already sent a message to first-team manager Erik ten Hag with his performance.

The 16-year-old notched a hat-trick in 14 minutes as the under-18s blew their Nottingham Forest counterparts away in the Carrington Training Centre.

Man United under-18s were 5-0 up in the opening 45 minutes and eventually ran out 6-0 winners, with Obi-Martin finding the back of the net in the 1st, 5th and 14th minutes.

The Danish teenage sensation joined the Red Devils from Arsenal after notching 32 goals and three assists in 20 under-18 Premier League appearances last term, while he also bagged 10 goals for the Gunners under-16s in a 14-3 win over their Liverpool counterparts last November.

He has been widely tipped to start training regularly with the Man United first-team sooner rather than later, and his performance today would have alerted Ten Hag.

Obi-Martin could be edging closer to his first-team debut if he keeps scoring at this rate, and the Dutchman will not hesitate to hand him opportunities if he proves regularly in training that he is good enough.

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund are the current primary striking options available to Ten Hag, but the former Arsenal schoolboy could soon be joining them, and all eyes will be on him going forward after leaving the Gunners for the Red Devils.

Being prolific at youth level is a common occurrence in football, but many have often struggled to replicate that form at first-team level, and it will be interesting to see whether Obi-Martin can.
