Manchester United have announced they have parted with Erik ten Hag as their manager following a disappointing start to the season.

Their 2-1 defeat at West Ham United yesterday proved to be the final straw.

According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, the Red Devils have put Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge of the team on an interim basis.

The former striker will be in the dugout on Wednesday evening when the team takes on Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

Man United’s results were simply not good enough under Ten Hag, and it would not have surprised many fans that the club finally decided that enough was enough.

He won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the two and a half years he spent in charge, but they never looked like a club capable of challenging for the Premier League.

The Dutchman was backed in the transfer market, spending around £180 million on players during the last summer window, but no significant improvements have been noticed since he arrived.

Man United will now look to get their next appointment right after sacking every manager they have hired since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.

Van Nistelrooy will look to impress in the few games he will oversee over the next couple of days.

German manager Thomas Tuchel would likely have been appointed had he not taken the England national team job earlier this month.

Man United will not be short of offers from agents looking to get their clients the job, and they need to appoint someone capable of delivering consistent success.
