Celtic welcomed back Paul McStay to Paradise to unfurl the League Champions flag. The Maestro was a fantastic servant for Celtic and remained at the club despite enduring the hardship of the 1990s.
In a resurfaced clip, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand paid tribute to McStay, revealing that he supported Celtic when he was younger.
Ferdinand called McStay a complete midfielder in the clip, referring to him as classy – which is certainly a fitting description.

Ferdinand has played with and against a number of top midfielders in his time as a player and it would have been interesting to hear where McStay ranked against some of them. McStay could have likely made more money and enjoyed more success had he left Celtic. However, he remained at the club for 16 years and made just shy of 700 appearances.
It was fitting that he was recognised yesterday by a younger generation of supporters for everything he has done for the club. Another figure from the 90s, Fergus McCann, was also present to watch the action. Wee Fergus saved Celtic from the brink and helped bring the club into the new millennium with the foundations to become the most successful club in the country.
