Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will consider the position of Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag during the next international break in October, and Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi has emerged as a serious contender if the job becomes available, according to the Daily Star.

The Old Trafford club have won just three games across all competitions this season, losing three and drawing twice, and the 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday has put the Dutchman under pressure again.

Man United face Porto away from home in their second game of the Europa League group phase on Thursday before travelling to face Aston Villa on Sunday in their last game before the break.

Losing both games could spell the end of Ten Hag at the club, but Ratcliffe is reluctant to fire him after Man United handed him a contract extension in the summer.

He will consult with fellow owners the Glazers, sporting director Dan Ashworth and chief executive Omar Berrada before deciding on his next move, but Inzaghi is firmly on his radar.

The 48-year-old has won nine trophies since becoming a manager in 2016, winning one Italian Cup and two Italian Super Cups with Lazio before moving to Inter in July 2021.

Inzaghi won the Serie A title with Inter last season having won two Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups with them.

He also helped them reach the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2022-23, where they lost to Manchester City, and Man United bosses have been impressed with the job he has done since taking charge of Inter.

However, whether the Red Devils can succeed in luring Inzaghi away from Italy to England remains to be seen as he signed a new contract with the Italian top-flight club earlier this year.

Man United have failed to challenge for the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013, with David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick all struggling before Ten Hag took over in July 2022.
