Manchester United have been underwhelming this season.
They have struggled in the final third with only 21 goals scored, while their defensive record has also been unconvincing.
Under new manager Ruben Amorim, the left wing-back position has been problematic.
Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia have started regularly in the role, but they have been poor.
With Luke Shaw injured again, United need an upgrade. AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez is a viable option.
Hernandez’s current deal with the Rossoneri expires in 2026. No progress has been made over a renewal with his agent.
Milan Live recently reported that his chances of leaving are ‘very high’, and United are ‘ready to go on the attack’ for his signature.
His relationship with Milan manager Paulo Fonseca has also become strained. The Red Devils have a big chance to capitalise on this.
The France international has been a key performer for the Rossoneri.
Hernandez had an exceptional 2023/24 season with 16 goal contributions from 46 games. The left-back has continued his good form this term.
He can provide the balance in attack and defence in the left wing-back role for United.
Milan value him at around £41 million, but United can capitalise on his contract stand-off to negotiate a lower fee when the transfer window reopens.
United’s chief executive officer, Omar Berrada, has already identified him as a top target.
If United can’t afford a permanent deal, a loan with an obligation to buy next summer could be agreed.
