Manchester United have been given a significant boost in their pursuit of goalkeeper Senne Lammens, with Royal Antwerp on the hunt for someone to replace him.
Andre Onana and his deputy Altay Bayindir both endured an extremely difficult 2024/25 season, making numerous high-profile mistakes that dearly cost United in games.
Both goalkeepers proved they can’t be fully trusted between the sticks for United, making it clear the club desperately need a reliable presence in goal ahead of next season.
There’s been speculation that both Onana and Bayindir could be on their way out this summer, as Ruben Amorim looks to bring in a more dependable option between the posts. Onana is believed to be of interest to the Saudi Pro League while a return to his native Turkey has been mooted for Bayindir.
Meanwhile, United continue to be linked to a number of goalkeepers including Lucas Chevalier (Lille), Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton), James Trafford (Burnley) and of course, Lammens.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person indicated that United have identified Lammens as a potential replacement for either Bayindir or Tom Heaton. However, it’s understood that discussions are still ongoing with Heaton about the possibility of extending his contract by an additional 12 months.
Earlier this year, it emerged that Lammens would find it hard to turn down the chance to join United.
The Belgian was outstanding for Antwerp in the recent campaign, in which he made 40 appearances, starting in all those games.
Lammens averaged 1.3 goals conceded per game while making an impressive 173 saves over the season, translating to 4.3 saves per game and a solid 77% save percentage.
In comparison, Onana made just 90 saves, with a save percentage of 67%, highlighting a noticeable gap in shot-stopping efficiency between the two.

If United planned to press ahead with their plans to lure Lammens to Old Trafford, then those efforts have received a major lift.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Antwerp are bracing for offers for Lammens and they’re already planning for life without him.
Tavolieri wrote on X, “Royal Antwerp FC now working & seeking the market of the goalkeepers.”
“Great Old knows Senne Lammens attracts a lot of interests and has opened the door for sell this summer. One to keep an eye on.”
It’s thought Lammens will suitors around €10m – a bargain fee in today’s market.
