Manchester United are reportedly considering the use of St George’s Park as a temporary training base for the women’s team.

This comes after Marc Skinner’s side were moved out of their £11million state-of-the-art training facility at Carrington to make space for the men’s team, whose facilities are currently undergoing a massive revamp.

It was stated that the women’s team would be moved into portacabins that will house changing rooms, team meeting rooms, office spaces and communal areas.

Unsurprisingly, this move by the club drew criticism, with The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) enlisted by the players to step in to address the Red Devils’ shocking treatment of their women’s team.

This instance represented the second time in three years that the PFA were made aware of concerns by Skinner’s stars, having made an approach to the PFA for support in trying to improve conditions at the club in 2021.

According to The Athletic, it seems that United contemplating using St George’s Park for a short period while renovation works at Carrington go on.

The newspaper states, “The club have provisionally booked the Football Association’s (FA) facilities from July 29 for a period of two to three weeks should they need them in order to cover the period when temporary facilities are put in place at Carrington.”

“A final decision to conduct a training camp at St. George’s Park — set in the Staffordshire countryside and owned by the FA, which is used by all of England’s national football teams — is, however, yet to be taken as the club are in consultation with players and evaluating the timescale required to assemble the temporary facilities.”

“Before this solution was proposed, United’s women squad were invited to a video meeting with the club, led by head of women’s football Matt Johnson, late last month in which the club informed the players of the impact of the redevelopment and their future relocation but not all players were able to attend.”

The Athletic add that for the duration of the temporary move, the United players will stay at St George’s Park as opposed to making the trip to and from Manchester.

The Red Devils have been hit with multiple high-profile departures in the past few days.

The likes of Mary Earps, Lucia Garcia and club captain Katie Zelem have all parted ways with the club. Meanwhile, they recently confirmed the arrival of Dutch defender Dominique Janssen on a free transfer.
