Manchester United have confirmed the departure of interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy from the club.

The 48-year-old has not been retained by new boss Ruben Amorim.

Van Nistelrooy rejoined United as an assistant coach in July and took charge of the team following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal in late October.

During his brief tenure, the Dutchman led the Red Devils to three wins and a draw in four matches.

Despite his positive impact, Amorim has reportedly opted for a different coaching set-up, bringing in his trusted generals from Sporting CP.

Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel will follow the former Real Madrid star through the door.

“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend,” the club stated in an official announcement.

“We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club.”

Before his recent stint at Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy had a successful playing career, netting 150 goals in 219 appearances for the club. He also enjoyed spells at Real Madrid, Hamburg, and Malaga.

He had interest from Burnley, where he could have been a permanent manager, but decided to follow his heart by returning to Manchester.

He is now back on the job market, and his results as interim manager could help him secure another job in England or back home in the Netherlands.

United will look to climb the Premier League table and secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

They are 13th in the table but are only four points away from fourth position.

The Portuguese manager’s first match in charge will be against Ipswich Town on November 24, and Man United will be desperate to open his tenure with a victory.
