Erling Haaland is in line to start after fully recovering from an ankle injury
Erling Haaland is ready to start for Manchester City against Southampton after recovering from injury.
The striker has been sidelined with an ankle injury since the FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth at the end of March. Haaland made the bench for the win over Wolves but did not get on the pitch.
City host Premier League whipping boys Southampton on Saturday, which on paper would offer an opportunity for Haaland to get some minutes under his belt ahead of the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace next weekend.
Asked for an update on Friday, Guardiola told reporters: "He's ready, he's fit. Start? We decide tomorrow."
Haaland is not expected to start after a significant spell on the sidelines, so Omar Marmoush will again get the nod as the focal point of the attack.
Kevin De Bruyne is in danger of being rested, but should get minutes off the bench in his penultimate home game as a City player, as with likes of Savinho and Jack Grealish push for minutes before the Wembley showpiece.
Guardiola at his press conference was again full of praise for Nico O'Reilly, who should start again on the left of an unchanged back four.
City remain without Rodri, Oscar Bobb, Nathan Ake and John Stones, with the latter three "partially training" with the team but "still not available."
Manchester City predicted XI: Ederson; Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O'Reilly; Gonzalez, Gundogan, Bernardo; Savinho, Marmoush, Grealish
Injured: Rodri, Ake, Stones, Bobb
Time and date: 3pm on Saturday, May 10, 2025
Venue: St Mary’s
