Malick Thiaw is set to become the third senior Newcastle United signing of this summer transfer window, having his medical today (Monday 11 August).
The German international defender following Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale through the door. Eighteen year old wingers Antonio Cordero and Seung-soo Park also coming in.
The weekend saw AC Milan and Newcastle United agree (see below) a transfer fee that is widely reported as a £34m deal, around £30m guaranteed and then another £4m in possible future add-ons.
Malick Thiaw has been a long time target of Eddie Howe and it looked as though he could arrive last summer (2024), only for United to instead go on an eventually unsuccessful Marc Guehi saga.
The soon to be former AC Milan star will be now reunited with Sandro Tonali, who no doubt will help Thiaw settle in at Newcastle United.
Ahead of flying to Newcastle, Malick Thiaw spoke to Sky Sports Italy about his decision:
“These three years at AC Milan have been a pleasure.
“I have learned a lot.
“I grew a lot as a footballer but mostly as a person.
“I wish all the best to all the people I spent my time here with, the players and the staff, the media, the doctors.”
Asked about how he felt about Newcastle United as his new club:
“Very happy.”
As for whether he is ready for the Premier League:
“Yes, I am.”
