It was a very low-key MLS matchday with just four games to pick through, but pick through we shall. Let’s get into it.

Seattle’s woes continued as they suffered a late defeat in Kansas City. The Sounders have now lost seven of their 17 games this season.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s neighbors to the south, Portland, picked up a 0-0 draw away to St. Louis, just their second clean sheet of the season as they begin to make a climb up the Western Conference standings.

Minnesota’s push towards the top of the west hit a road-block as they drew 1-1 at home to FC Dallas.

In the east, the Revolution stunned New York Red Bulls with a late winner to pick up fourth win of the campaign.

Goal of the matchday

While there weren’t many to choose from, the affair at Allianz Field did give us this superb corner-kick routine.

Winners of the matchday

It’s not often the New England Revolution will be our ‘Winners of the matchday’ this season, but a late stunner against the Red Bulls is more than enough to land the award.

The Revs have sat bottom of the Eastern Conference for the majority of the season and have shown little sign of improvement, but a win against one of the conference contenders is not the worst way to kick off a potential turnaround.

Unfortunately for the Foxborough side, the road ahead does not get much easier as their next three games will come against Vancouver, Cincinnati, and Columbus.

Losers of the matchday

We just aren’t familiar with this. A Brian Schmetzer-lead Seattle Sounders that can’t defend, attack, or control games in any real manner.

The Cascadia club had a chance to snatch what could have been celebrated as a vital point away from home when they were level at Children’s Mercy Park heading into the dying minutes, but a Reed Baker-Whiting sending off began the capitulation.

While it took them more than 10 minutes, SKC took advantage of their numerical superiority to snatch all three points with a late goal.

After yet another defeat, Seattle sit in 10th place with just four wins from 17 MLS games.
