Major Billy Dodds Rangers admission is huge lesson to Russell Martin

While Rangers did secure Lyall Cameron this window (albeit on a pre contract from January) he remains the only Scottish player Rangers have signed. Why Rangers ignore Scottish players we don’t know.

We mention this because Billy Dodds confirmed the club would have shopped heavily from the Scottish Premiership had he and Barry Ferguson et al taken the gig permanently.

Given Rangers’ entire team is misfiring and arguably only Cameron and John Souttar have played half decent, with mentions for Antman and Djiga, maybe the Scottish angle wouldn’t have been such a bad idea.

Lawrence Shankland gave up waiting for Rangers – Hearts offered him a juicy new deal, he didn’t want to leave Scotland (despite all his claims) and he plumped for the only option he then had.

Rangers let that one rot, as we always do. Rangers ignore Scottish players.

Meanwhile Udinese plan to offer £5M for Motherwell’s Lennon Miller, in another deal Rangers have clearly decided against.

We have done this for years. We sign inappropriate random guff like Emmanuel Fernandez for £4M and ignore the more obvious, easier and probably cheaper options.

Antman looks potentially good, but that was only against Plzen. Dundee undid him, and no one else shone either, aside from Souttar, Cameron and Djiga.

With Dodds saying his team would have shopped from the SPL, it’s an example. Despite Barry not being a very good manager, the squad he’d have built would have been quality.

For some reason Rangers act snobby about Scottish players, so we let them all go elsewhere.

And we end up with Jefte, Fernandez and injury crocks like Aasgaard.

Well played as usual Rangers.
