FSV Mainz are set to host league leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday at the MEWA Arena in the Bundesliga. Bayern, who have been unbeaten in the Bundesliga, will look to continue their dominant run with a win and solidify their position at the top of the table. These two sides met earlier this season in the DFB Pokal Second round which ended in a comfortable 4–0 win for the Bavarians.

Bayern Munich are coming off a 5–1 demolition of Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, Meanwhile, Mainz’s last result was a narrow defeat in a 4–3 thriller against Wolfsburg. Die Nullfünfer, placed ninth on the Bundesliga table, will strive to get at least a point against Bayern and stay in the race for European qualification. Bayern, on the other hand, would look to take all three points and go into their last game of 2024 against RB Leipzig with a comfortable lead on top of the table.

Bayern Munich vs VfB Stuttgart: Expected Starting XI

With many players still out injured, a lot of rotation cannot be expected from Vincent Kompany but a few changes may be on the cards. Let’s take a look at our predicted starting XI for Bayern’s away trip to Mainz.

GK: Daniel Peretz - With Neuer out injured and Sven Ulreich absent from the squad due to personal reasons, Daniel Peretz will once again guard the sticks for Die Roten against Mainz 05.

LB: Raphaël Guerreiro - As Alphonso Davies continues to recover from an injury, Raphaël Guerreiro will deputize for him in the left-back position on Saturday against Mainz.

CB: Eric Dier - Kim Min-jae, who has been playing through physical issues lately, could get some much-needed rest against Mainz on Saturday. Eric Dier could start in place of the Korean. The 30-year-old’s only start for Bayern this season also came against Mainz in a DFB Pokal second-round tie.

CB: Dayot Upamecano  - Only one of Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano can enjoy the privilege of rotation and it won’t be the Frenchman, who is set to lead Bayern’s backline against Mainz.
