Mainz rumored pursuit of French attacking midfielder Arnaud Nordin has resulted in an official signing. The 26-year-old arrived in the Bundesliga on Tuesday, officially unveiled as a Mainz professional working on a contract valid through 2028.

In speaking on his plans for the current January transfer window, FSV sporting director Nico Bungert made it abundantly clear that he did not wish to sign another center-forward. A support attacker for head-coach Bo Henriksen’s 3-4-3/3-6-1 was nevertheless sought.

Paul Nebel and Jae-Sung Lee have generally served as the buttressing support attackers in Henriksen’s tactical set-up, yet have both unfortunately both dipped in form since the 2024/25 Bundesliga January restart.

The French Olympic youth international – preparing to play outside of his country for the first time –  has scored 32 goals in 198 appearances for Montpelier and Saint-Etienné.

Arnaud is dual-footed, has strong dribbling skills, high speed of acceleration and can play in all attacking positions,” Bungert noted in a statement on the club’s website. “He has proven his quality in almost 200 Ligue 1 games and will be able to help us immediately. We have been following him for quite some time. We are very happy that he has now signed.”

“I really like the football that Mainz 05 play and it suits me well in terms of playing style,” the player himself added. “I have been following the club for a long time, and I know Anthony Caci, who was with me at the Olympics with the French team. The Bundesliga has been a dream of mine for a long time. Now I’m excited to get to know our fans, the city and the culture.
