Mike Maignan twice went down seeking treatment for two different injury concerns in the first half of Milan’s Champions League match against Liverpool, then limped off after a third knock.

The goalkeeper required support from the medical staff just moments after the Rossoneri had taken the early lead at San Siro through Christian Pulisic’s angled drive.

He appeared to have problems with his right knee and was able to continue after several minutes of treatment and checks.

However, Maignan went to ground again during the first half and this time the issue was with his left ankle, which he seemed to sprain after a clearance.

Maignan injury concerns for Milan

The France international was visibly hobbling when trying to play out from the back and the lack of mobility was also evident in the two goals that Milan conceded, because he struggled to jump on relatively free headers from Ibrahima Konaté and Virgil van Dijk on set plays, one a free kick and the other a corner.

Despite his difficulties, Maignan was able to make several saves in the first half and was rescued twice by the crossbar on ex-Roma winger Mohamed Salah.

His luck ran out straight after the restart when he bravely rushed out to deny Diogo Jota, as Fikayo Tomori clattered into his left knee, causing a cut.

Marco Sportiello is also out injured, so the only alternatives on the bench were 19-year-old Lorenzo Torriani and 20-year-old Lapo Nava.

Torriani played in a couple of Milan pre-season friendlies after the Sportiello setback and came on at the 51st minute.
