Mike Maignan has refused to rule out the possibility of one day returning to play for Paris Saint-Germain, remarking that ‘you never know’ in football.
Maignan has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world since his emergence at Lille and his subsequent move to Milan in 2021, where he replaced Gianluigi Donnarumma. He won the Scudetto in his first season, and is now France’s No.1 too.
These performances have drawn links with a number of top clubs such as Chelsea and even PSG, the club he played at from 2009 to 2015 before joining Lille. This has also prompted widespread reports that the Milan management want to renew his deal.
Maignan will meet his former side PSG in the Champions League group stages but first he is focusing on international duty with France. Immediately after the Roma game he went to Villiers-le-Bel – a club north of the capital – where he started playing between 2003 and 2009.
Le Parisien (via PianetaMilan) report that he spent time with the boys at the club answering their questions, and he was asked about the PSG game coming up.
“I have already played against them when I was at Lille, so it’s not a pitch I don’t know. It will be a great match, at high rhythms, the way I like it,” he said.
“Returning to PSG one day? I’m Parisian but today I’m under contract with Milan. And we can’t know about the future.”
