Macaulay Langstaff has had a tough first season with Millwall, and Football League World has taken a look at three clubs he could join in the summer.

Life at Millwall FC has not quite gone to plan for Macaulay Langstaff this season, and after his eagerly-awaited move to the Championship from League Two side Notts County, more would have expected of him.

The 28-year-old has scored just once so far for the Lions in 30 appearances in the second tier, and after being so prolific at his former club, he has failed to replicate that form in South London.

The performances of Mihailo Ivanovic, who scored twice at the weekend in a 2-1 win over Portsmouth at The Den, have forced the £700k man to watch on from the bench for the majority of the campaign, and be used as a back-up to the superb Serbian youngster.

With just a matter of weeks to go in the 2024/25 season, Langstaff is surely eyeing a departure from Millwall in the summer, and Football League World has taken a look at three clubs who could target him when the transfer window opens.

Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle are hanging on to their Championship status by a thread, and while a 2-1 victory over Norwich City on Saturday has boosted their chances of staying in the division, they do remain at the foot of the table - four points off safety.

With just six games to go, time is running out for the Pilgrims to rescue themselves from the drop and plans will have been made whether they start the new campaign in their current division or League One. If they are to taste relegation, then Langstaff could be the perfect player to come in and help take them back to the second tier at the first time of asking.

While he has had his struggles this season, he has proven himself further down the pyramid and League One could be the perfect place for him to play his football and with limited striker options due to Michael Obafemi and Muhamed Tijani only being on loan, Argyle would not turn down another forward.

Miron Muslic's side have lacked goals in 2024/25, and Langstaff's League Two record proves that he can find the back of the net when given the correct opportunities in the right team. Plymouth will more than likely be fighting at the top of the third tier if theya re relegated, and having competition for Ryan Hardie will only benefit them.

Wycombe Wanderers

While Argyle look to be on their way down to League One, a side who could be on their way out of it are Wycombe Wanderers and they could be in desperate need of a new number nine come the summer.

Richard Kone found himself the subject of significant interest from Luton Town in the January transfer window, and it would not be a surprise to see Matt Bloomfield try and reunite himself with the 21-year-old this summer after having several multi-million pound bids rejected at the start of the year.

If Kone does depart, then the Chairboys will be in need of a replacement, and Langstaff could be exactly that as they chase promotion to the Championship.

While it has not worked out for the ex-Gateshead star at The Den, a fresh environment and the opportunity to lead the line on a weekly basis could be the perfect way for him to regain his confidence and prove that he has the ability to perform in the EFL's top division.

Notts County

Nearly 10 months after he left Notts County for Millwall, a return to Meadow Lane and the East Midlands could be the best situation for all parties this summer.

With Langstaff failing to show his true self in the capital, making his way back to the club that he truly excelled at could be exactly what he needs as the Magpies fight for promotion to League One.

Alassana Jatta's future in Nottingham is uncertain, with Plymouth showing interest back in January and the replacement that they may need could have already donned the black-and-white stripes.

The 28-year-old scored 70 goals in 96 appearances for Notts County in just two seasons, with 28 of those coming in League Two as the Magpies returned to the EFL for the first time since 2019 and they will know just how much quality he can provide for them going forward.

Meadow Lane is a home from home for Langstaff and reuniting with the club that he helped take back to the fourth tier in 2022/23 may just be the perfect way for the striker to return to his very best.
