Luke McCowan will prove be a good signing…

Luke McCowan became our final signing in the window when he was signed late last night in a deal believed to be worth around £1 million from Dundee.

The 26 year old midfielder might not have been the biggest name on our list of targets, but he’s still a worthy acquisition all the same and he’s the one player in the Scottish Premiership outside of our own squad who has clearly caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers.

Some supporters turn their noses up at us signing players from our own league, they all want the big money foreign players, but there is quality to be had in our own back yard, which has been proven in years gone by with the likes of Barry Robson, Paul Hartley, and more recently Stuart Armstrong and Greg Taylor all being a success after moving from rival Scottish sides.

I’m not saying Luke will emulate these players, but he’ll more than prove his worth.

He’s a decent player with a cracking left peg, he’s energetic and he’s skilful. He was the captain of Dundee, so he’s obviously a great leader. He’s also good at set pieces, something we’ve been missing for quite some time. He scores penalties and as you know we haven’t been too consistent at finding the back of the net from the penalty spot.

He’s also a Celtic supporter who’s climbed his way through the lower ranks of Scottish football to get where he is today, with Ayr United set to get a development fee payment from this deal, so that will even help Scott Brown! He’ll appreciate this move more than anyone and will burst a gut to give his all for the club, you can be sure of that. He also replaces fellow Celtic supporter Mikey Johnston in the European squad for Scottish or homegrown players so this move makes perfect sense in that regard too. Best of luck to Mikey at West Brom too.

You could see Luke’s on his face when we walked out at Celtic Park late last night as he was paraded as a Celtic player. He was me and you in that situation, the stuff of dreams. He’ll more than contribute to this club, mark my words. Welcome to Celtic Luke, a Celtic supporter who is now living the dream.

Welcome home Luke!
