3 players we could see depart Wycombe Wanderers after Mike Dodds admitted that he must trim his squad.
Wycombe Wanderers are set to trim the size of their squad this summer, after nine new arrivals at Adams Park will leave Mike Dodds with selection headaches once again.
The Chairboys are looking to go one better than last season and achieve promotion to the Championship, with Dodds now having a transfer window to assemble a squad which is to his liking. The addition of Nottingham Forest’s Tom Stockwell has also been key in player recruitment this summer.
The club has undergone a major overhaul on and off the pitch over the last 12 months, which has certainly created a buzz around the place for fans and players alike, but has also caused some problems that the head coach has to deal with.
In the previous two transfer windows, Wycombe have signed 19 players, of whom a fraction were on loan or short-term contracts. This has left the squad rather overcrowded in some areas, and with more signings expected, Dodds admitted that he will have to trim the squad to prevent awkward conversations.
After this admission, Football League World decided to look at three players who find themselves on the cusp of the first-team squad, whose future at Adams Park could still be up in the air this summer.

A hugely popular figure in the current squad, Luke Leahy has been a stalwart for the Blues since he signed for the club from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2023. Over the past two seasons, he’s been one of Wycombe’s top contributors, filling in a range of different positions.
However, Wanderers boast a stacked midfield already, with the likes of Caolan Boyd-Munce, Jamie Mullins, and Ewan Henderson all arriving at the club this summer, and ongoing links to both Michal Rosiak and Luca Connell, which could see even more competition for the ex-Shrews skipper.
Many other League One clubs have already reportedly enquired about Leahy’s situation, as the 32-year-old assesses his options ahead of the new season, with his contract set to expire next summer. However, his recent involvement in Wycombe’s pre-season fixtures suggests no departure is imminent.
Leahy is a useful player to have in the squad thanks to his versatility and ability to pop up with match-winning moments, but a player of his calibre will likely want to be playing week-in-week-out, which seems unlikely to happen at Adams Park.
Last season, Declan Skura was touted as the next breakthrough star of the Wycombe B team, following an excellent loan spell at Ebbsfleet United. For the first half of the season, that looked like it could be the case.
However, the second part of the campaign saw the 23-year-old play more of a bit-part role for Dodds at the start of his reign, before dropping out of the squad towards the end of the season.
Skura has played plenty of minutes in pre-season as the ex-Sunderland interim boss continues to evaluate his current squad. But with the return of a rejuvenated Alex Hartridge and two new defensive additions in Dan Casey and Taylor Allen, the B team graduate could find himself down the pecking order.
Skura is highly rated at Adams Park, with plenty of senior minutes already under his belt. With that in mind, it seems rather unlikely that the defender would be allowed to depart permanently, so a loan in League Two would be the next logical step in his progression towards becoming a first-team regular.
Signed on deadline day in the winter transfer window, Will Norris came to HP12 to play as the first-choice goalkeeper, but it seems that his position is under serious threat this season, thanks to a new arrival in the goalkeeping department.
Mikki van Sas joined the Chairboys from Feyenoord last month, with the ex-Manchester City prospect taking the number one shirt, and also locking down that position as first-choice, going off evidence displayed in pre-season. This has left Wycombe with three senior goalkeepers all vying for one spot.
Norris has struggled with inconsistency in his time at Adams Park thus far, which has seen him struggle to build a positive rapport with the supporters. His signing didn’t have the desired effects, and similarly to Leahy, a player of his calibre wouldn’t want to be sitting on the bench.
Whilst Shamal George has been linked with a move to St Mirren, many still expect the former Portsmouth shot-stopper to find a new challenge this summer. Goalkeepers don’t have to be registered, which means it wouldn't free up a place in the squad for a new outfield player, but it's unlikely Norris will want to stick around and play second-fiddle to van Sas.
